The Swim

Water has always been an important element in my life. The healing, cleansing, thereupatic and refreshing effects works good for my health. It also filled me with much calmess and comforts.

Last week i decided to go for a swim at Putrajaya Maritime centre. It was 8pm when i reached the pool. Entrance fee costs only RM5 per person, very cheap!

The water was icy cold! I found out the hard way though, by jumping straight into the pool! Splashh!! Suffered from brainfreeze for a few minutes. Hahahaa! But look at this view! It was incredible!

The pool is facing the Putrajaya Lake, and you can enjoy the night skyline of Putrajaya. You can also see the brightly lit Putrajaya bridges from here. Awesome right? It's a good place for reading as well (during daytime of course).

By the end of my swim (pool closes at 9.45pm) my work stress has reduced, backache has dissapeared, and I felt happyyy! Woohoo! :-D

If you haven't been here, I strongly recommend this pool to you! See you all soon!

Kacang Pool (aka foul)

This is one of my favourite breakfast when i was a kid in Singapore. My dad often buy this from an arab stall in Geylang Serai. Kacang pool is also famous in Johor. But when u travel to other parts of Malaysia, it is really hard to get a good kacang pool. Especially in KL. So i made my own! Woohoo!

This dish is made of beans, minced beef/lamb, onions, garlic, ginger, curry powder and coriander powder, little bit of ghee. I didnt share the recipe here, because it wasn't as good.It taste okay, but not as good as the ones i had in Singapore. Will try other recipes next time, and share it with you guys :-)

In my family we cut the eggs into smaller pieces using a spoon, before scooping it with bread.  Usually it is served with sunny side up. I hate egg yolk, so i didn't prep the sunny side up.

Just use your hands to tear the french loaf. You can slice it if u want to go fancy though ;-)

Anyway, i can't wait to go back to my hometown! Miss my family and the local foods there, especially this delicious kacang pool!

Thank you for reading, see you all later!

Jar of Life

Almost a year ago, I came across an amazing video that went viral on the internet- Home by Jorge and Alexa Narvaez (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L64c5vT3NBw). The great covers has led me to become an avid follower to the Narvaez family on Youtube, as well as their Facebook page. I am also inspired by their commitment to place the importance of music, art, family and community in their life.

This made me start thinking about what are the most important things in my life? There are many I must say, my family, friends, boyfriend, career, love, health, academics, clothes, makeup, etc. But which are of priority and carry the most weight?

I read a story, which was later documented in Stephen Convey's book. An old professor conduct an experiment on a jar, by filling it full with large stones, followed with pebbles, sands, and water. The lessons learnt from this experiment is that if we do not put the large stones first, we will never be able to fit them later. The large stones represent the topmost priority in our life. What are those? Family? Health? Religion? Friends? Goals? If we do not include the large stones first, life will be filled with less important things to us.

Thus, always ask what are the large stones in your life? And remember to put them in FIRST in your ‘Jar of Life’.

May Allah grant us the ability to identify the rocks in our life.

Insyaallah.

Waiting for my seafarer to sign off his duty

I just felt so sad

Saw my colleagues' husbands picking them up from work
Saw couples getting on the train together
Me going home to nobody

I just felt so terrible

Groceries shopping at cold storage
Deciding which vegetables, chicken or cheese to buy

While chatting about the horrible boss she has
He annoys her more with teasers

I just felt so lonely

Girlfriends spending time with parents
Husbands, boyfriends or nieces
Me with my teddy and puffy
Trying to figure out what to cook for my one-pax lunch

I just felt so lost

Taking the train on weekends
Watching movies with a dozen of couples
Damn, I am the odd one out
Nobody is munching my popcorn away?

I am worried all the time

When no calls is the routine
Emails received latter then the sent
Waiting for assurance just to know that
He is working hard onboard

Many wonder what it's like to be a seafarer
But nobody wonder what its like to be me?

The seafarer's partner of a decade..
